Updated: Street sealed off as vehicle goes up in flames in York

Emergency crews were called to a street in York last night after a camper van burst into flames.

Police sealed off Beaconsfield Street in Acomb as firefighters dealt with the incident.

North Yorkshire Police asked people to stay away from the scene.

Other vehicles and two homes in the street were also damaged in the blaze. Fire and police officers have launched an investigation into the cause.

A number of people posted on social media that they had been shocked by hearing a loud bang.

Others said that there was a lot of smoke in the residential street. There are no reports of any injuries.

Fire crews from Acomb and York were called to the blaze at 11.20pm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire crews extinguished the fire with fire and police investigation currently taking place.

“Extensive fire damage was suffered by the camper van with also fire damage to three other vehicles in the street, and also slight fire damage to the front of two premises in the street.”
