A brand-new food and leisure festival headlined by one of North Yorkshire’s most popular chefs is coming to Galtres Park – and we’ve teamed up with Flavours of Yorkshire to give you the chance to win tickets to see James Martin live.
On Saturday 4 July, James Martin will be serving up live cookery demos as part of Flavours of Yorkshire and signing copies of his books in the Kemp’s Festival Bookshop. Tickets to watch James Martin’s displays start from £15 and demand is expected to be very high.

The new festival is being organised by Mark Brayshaw of Rockin’ Horse Promotions, who ran Malton’s renowned Food Lovers Festival for many years.
James Martin made a great impact with his television debut in November ‘96 and has rarely been off our TV screens since. He was a regular chef on Ready Steady Cook (BBC2), and in 2006 he reached the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing (BBC1). James went on to present BBC1 ’s hit series Saturday Kitchen for 10 years, regularly attracting viewers in excess of 3.5 million. James is undoubtedly one of the most recognisable chef’s in the UK today.
Growing up in nearby Malton, just 7 miles from Galtres Park, James’ career began at Castle Howard, where his father ran the catering and James often helped out. He was Student of the Year three years running at Scarborough Technical College. At the tender age of 22, he opened the Hotel and Bistro du Vin in Winchester as Head Chef and for three years James had his restaurant at The Talbot, in Malton. James has never appeared at a food festival in this area before, so his appearance at Flavours of Yorkshire is something of a homecoming!
A custom built ‘pop-up’ theatre will be created especially for this event inside the Galtres Park Arena. James will be cooking up a storm and big screens will show the close-up worktop action, so you won’t miss any of the finer culinary details.

Alongside an array of artisan food and drink stalls will be a cosmopolitan street food court and a family-friendly funfair and inflatables zone to keep young families entertained (with a small charge per ride).
And another new feature at Flavours of Yorkshire will be ‘Electric Avenue’, a display of new electric cars and bikes, with models from established and new-to-the-UK manufacturers on display for anyone considering the switch to electric.
