What was once one of York’s go-to spots for teatime treats is set to be reborn with a more Mediterranean twist.
Plans are in to turn Chloes of York into a Portuguese themed restaurant.
Chloes closed in March after ten years.
It has been empty ever since. But soon the building, found next to Barnitts on Colliergate, will become Tasca Frango Restaurant Bar and Grill, offering “deliciously authentic Portuguese chicken”.
If that idea sounds familiar, that’s because it is. A planning application is in to repaint the former café in the colours in the picture below – and it comes from Frango Eduardo Ltd.
That’s the company set up by Ted Hustler and partner Emma Hargreaves, who first delighted customers with their Portuguese chicken menu at Spark:York.
They then hoped to create a restaurant in what was the Cast Iron Bath Company, also on Colliergate. But then the Up And Running shop moved in there.
Instead they opened Frango Eduardo at the Supersonic Gym on Stonegate.
Sadly the gym has now closed. And now Ted and Emma are ready to open Tasca Frango to keep that piri piri chicken coming.
