The York Ice Trail is back!
On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March ice sculptures designed and sponsored by local businesses will line the city streets and transport visitors with this year’s theme Around the World.
The Make It York event had to be cancelled last year due to the pandemic. This year’s event was set to take place in February – but it has been moved to March due to the rising Covid cases.
And for the first time this year – YorkMix Radio will have their very own sculpture!
Find the station’s Bug Count Cash Giveaway sculpture on Parliament Street and you could be in with a chance of winning £1,000.
Simply guess how many Mix bugs are hiding in the ice sculpture and enter via the YorkMix Radio app.
Correct guesses will then be put into a draw, with the winner announced on YorkMix Radio at 9am on Monday 7th March. So get your best guessing head on!

Magical ice sculptures
Visitors can go travelling Around the World with this year’s sculptures to destinations both real and fictional.
See the Park & Ride bus at Parliament Street from main sponsor First York, or why not pop over to the Bettys Express Train on Davygate!
The grounds at Middletons Hotel will be transformed into a wonderland, with four magical ice sculptures and plenty of photo opportunities with Mad Hatter themed props.
The York BID also have seven Disney-inspired sculptures – one for every continent in the world, and famous York landmarks will be carved into ice across Exhibition Square for ‘The York Skyline’ from City of York Council.
And so much more!
Ice sculpture creators Ice Box will also be on hand in St Sampson’s Square to demonstrate some live carving, and there’ll be an opportunity to have a go at ice carving yourself on the graffiti wall.
Councillor Keith Aspden, Leader of the Council, said: “York Ice Trail was, I’m sure, missed by many last year, so it’s excellent to see the much-loved event return once again in March for residents, families and visitors to enjoy safely.
“Our city is well known and loved for its vibrant businesses, so many of whom have joined the festivities this year, with an impressive 40 sculptures set to bring some extra magic to the city.”
