Erin Greaney
At only 8 years old, Erin is setting an example for people everywhere – both young and old.
Dedicated to helping the environment, Erin encourages staying away from single-use plastics, walks or cycles to school, is often seen with a litter picker – and more.
She has also created a mini documentary to raise awareness about the dangers plastic has to marine life.
One person who nominated Erin said, “The passion and enthusiasm Erin has for the environment is incredible.
“We all could do with being a little more like Erin.”

Carl Alsop
Carl is the operations manager at the York BID (Business Improvement District).
This summer, the York BID had a mission to ‘create the nation’s biggest bee-friendly floral display.’
Over 200 planters around the city were filled with exclusively bee-friendly plants to help pollinators move around the city, bug hotels were installed, and an app was created to particularly encourage children to get involved.
Someone who nominated Carl said, “Me and my kids love this initiative!
“A fantastically creative and environmentally conscious project to help our bee population.
“Well done to the York BID for thinking up this idea and all the hard work putting it in situ.”
Paul Wiley
Paul is the supervisor for the City of York street cleaning team.
Someone who is committed to making our city look amazing, Paul voluntarily works late shifts and nights to better meet the needs of events and the city’s economy.
One person who nominated Paul said, “He’s always prepared to go that extra mile to help businesses within the city.
“Going above and beyond what is required for no extra thanks.”
Congratulations to all of our finalists!
The winner of the Environmental Hero award will be revealed in our Hero Awards ceremony at the Principal York on 8th October.
