The popular York Minster Winter Village, launched last winter, is set to make a comeback.
The Minster has applied for permission to install six timber chalets outside the South Quire Aisle from 7 November to 10 January.
Documents submitted in support of the planning application state: “The chalets will connect York Minster to the city’s wider Christmas market offering and will support the Minster and the city.”
Last year’s market “helped generate much needed income for York Minster in the aftermath of the pandemic”.
There will be picnic benches and “low volume choral music/carols being played”.
One of the chalets will be used for storage. The other five will sell Christmas food, gluevein and hot chocolate, York Minster Christmas gifts and the ‘best of Yorkshire produce’.
“One chalet will be available for use by local charities,” the application says.
