It’s the weekend!

There’s lots of fun to be had in York this weekend – The huge LGBTQ+ celebration York Pride will once again be marching to the Knavesmire, Tractorfest is back at Newby Hall, the inaugural York Horror Fest is here, a new exhibition opens at York Minster, it’s the return of the Poppleton Beer & Music Festival, and much more.

York Pride

North Yorkshire’s largest LGBTQ+ celebration and York’s biggest free one-day festival is back! Join the Parade from its new starting point on Parliament Street and march to the Knavesmire for music, entertainment, food and drink, and family fun. The main stage line-up includes headliners Angels of the North, and performances from La Voix, Kerry Ellis, The Cheeky Girls, Marcus Collins, Eva Iglesias, Pet Shop Boys, Actually, Janice D, Ryan Petitjean and more.

Tractorfest

Poppleton Beer & Music Festival 2025

It’s the lucky for everyone 13th Poppleton Beer & Music Festival, serving perfectly conditioned cask ales, keg, lagers, ciders, wines, a collection of gins and soft drinks. The hugely popular Pimms and Prosecco tent returns of course, along with lots of music and dancing, a fantastic line up of bands, and a selection of food outlets serving popular festival fodder.

Matthew Bourne’s The Midnight Bell

Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures company return to York Theatre Royal with The Midnight Bell. In 1930s London ordinary people emerge from cheap boarding houses nightly to pour out their passions, hopes and dreams in the pubs and fog-bound streets of Soho and Fitzrovia. Step inside The Midnight Bell, a tavern where one particular lonely-hearts club gather to play out their lovelorn affairs of the heart; bitter comedies of longing, frustration, betrayal and redemption. Carousel

Visions, Voices, Vocations: Celebrating Women in York Minster

Step inside the medieval Chapter House and meet the women who shape life at York Minster today through a new portrait exhibition in collaboration with award-winning photographer Olivia Hemingway.

The exhibition features high-definition screens that display the specially commissioned photographs. The emotive installation captures just some of the inspirational women who contribute to the life and mission of the Minster today, ranging from its police force and musicians to stonemasons and conservators.

The Richard Hall Symposium 2025: A Day Out with the Vikings

The Richard Hall Symposium is returning to its original Festival of Ideas slot in 2025, with ‘A Day Out with the Vikings’, which will look at the past, present and future of festivals and public events on a Viking theme. A panel of invited speakers will join the discussion, which will look at re-enactment, reconstructed Viking ships, Viking festivals across the British Isles and Europe, and the JORVIK Viking Festival itself, which can be traced back to York city centre events staged for the first time in summer 1985.
