Open Farm Sunday is returning – offering everyone a unique opportunity to explore the world of farming and the vital role it plays in our everyday lives.
Now in its 19th year, farms across the country will be opening their doors on Sunday 8 June to the general public – including two in North Yorkshire.
Managed nationally by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), this much-loved national initiative connects farmers and the public in a unique celebration of food, farming and nature.
By welcoming the public onto farms and showcasing the journey of food from farm to table, Open Farm Sunday helps consumers to build a deeper appreciation for where their food comes from, and importantly the farmers who produce it.
The participating North Yorkshire farms include the Forest of Flowers in Huby, York. For Open Farm Sunday, it’ll be offering a guided tour showcasing wildflower meadows, woodland and wetland – featuring wildlife like butterflies, dragonflies, pigs and goats.
The tour will showcase key areas of the new habitat, including woodland, wildflowers, 18 large ponds, and their benefit for wildlife. Find out more about the event here.
It also includes Wildon Grange, Coxwold, York, who are opening their working family farm for visitors to see their cows, calves and machinery. Find out more here.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned supporter, Open Farm Sunday promises to be a day to remember. Explore a local farm, enjoy time outdoors with your family, and discover how farmers are working to create a more sustainable future.
