The weather is cool, and the exhibits are cooler still – the return of York Ice Trail this weekend looks all set for success.
And there are two late additions to the trail worth looking out for.
The first comes in support of a rally for Ukraine taking place in St Helen’s Square at 2.30pm today (Saturday).
Ice Trail organisers Make It York and sculptors Icebox have commissioned a special ice sculpture in support.
The heart shaped sculpture of the Ukrainian flag will be positioned in St Helen’s Square on Saturday from 10am.
To make space for it, the ‘Heavenly Delight’ ice sculpture will now be moved to a new location at St Sampson’s Square on Saturday and will return to its spot in St Helen’s Square on Sunday.
In other changes, the National Railway Museum have taken the decision to remove their sculpture from this year’s trail.
This decision follows the museum cancelling their upcoming ‘Trans-Siberian: The World’s Longest Railway’ exhibition, due to the distressing events in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.
And the second York Ice Trail addition is the the Magic Tree of Light will be lit up in icy colours.
The tree, in the Eye of York, is festooned with 15km of lights thanks to the York BID (Business Improvement District).
Don’t forget your chance to win £1,000 with YorkMix Radio at the Ice Trail today – and enjoy!
