There was major disruption on commuter services between York and Leeds this morning (Thursday).
A safety inspection found problems on the tracks.
At 6.45am Northern Rail posted: “Due to urgent repairs to the track between York and Leeds all lines are blocked.
“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled.”
The lines have now reopened. At 12.16pm, Northern posted: “Following urgent repairs to the track between York and Leeds the line has reopened.
“Services running through these stations are returning to normal.”
Train services were unable to run on the following routes:
- Blackpool North to York will terminate at Leeds
- Leeds to York via Garforth will be unable to run.
- Hull to Halifax will be terminated at Selby where possible.
Services that run via York to Leeds via Harrogate are not affected.
Northern Rail tickets were being accepted on:
- Alternative Northern services between York to Leeds via Harrogate, and also between Hull and York
- Transpennine Express services (that will divert around the problem site) between Leeds and York / Hull
- LNER services between York and Doncaster in both directions. Passengers wishing to travel between York and Hull may do so via Doncaster.
Buses were also being laid on for passengers.
