Six weeks of roadworks begin on key York road today
A heads-up for motorists – roadworks begin on Bootham in York today (Monday).
The City of York Council work is to install a new crossing at the junction at St Mary’s and is scheduled to last six weeks.
It will remove the existing pedestrian crossing and introduce new traffic signals.
The aim is to improve facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

The working hours will be 9am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
Weekend working “may be necessary”. Traffic management will be undertaken using three-way temporary traffic lights.
Resurfacing will take place at the end of the period of work.
This work will be carried out by Tarmac and will be done overnight (7.30pm – 5am) to minimise disruption.
The council says: “It is usual practise that any loud activity be completed by 11pm.”
At the same time the bottom section of St Mary’s will be resurfaced, ahead of the scheme to provide a ramp access from St Mary’s to Marygate Lane.
Delays are expected during the work.
