A York community theatre group are returning for their fifth pantomime – at a brand new venue.
The Deadpan Players will be making their debut performance at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre with Robin Hood: Making Nottingham Great Again on Friday 24 to Saturday 25 January 2025.
This will be the first time the community players have performed at the venue, having previously staged their pantomimes at Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick.
Every year, Deadpan Players support local charities with their performances and have raised over £30,000 since they first formed.
This year, all profits from the show will be donated to Candlelighters and The Farming Community Network – in memory of Nick Leaf, a fellow Deadpan Player and local farmer.
The Deadpan Players was founded in 2018 by John Kent and Astrid Croasdale, following a chance conversation at the side of a kids football match.
Their first pantomime, Cinderella, was performed in January 2019 at the Chapman Theatre in Queen Margaret’s School followed by Aladdin, Jack & The Beanstalk, a sketch show, and last year’s pantomime Treasure Island – The Legacy of Scrooge.
Now the theatre group is taking on the legend of Robin Hood himself!
The city of Nottingham is under the grip of the evil Sheriff – and only Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men can save the city, along with the beautiful Maid Marian.
Audiences can expect comedy, slapstick, music and dance in this fun-filled frolic of a pantomime.
