Here’s how the flooding has looked in York today (Thursday) as river levels peak.
The riverside is mainly affected, with most of the city open for business as normal.
Rowntree Park and its car park was closed, as were the St George’s Field and Esplanade car parks.
There were three flood warnings in place for York this afternoon, but the waters are due to recede.
The River Ouse at the Viking Recorder is forecast to peak at 3.87m at 5pm today, before falling back in the early hours of tomorrow.
Here’s how it’s looking in different parts of the city.
The Millennium Bridge and Fulford
Water from the River Ouse has risen and submerged both banks.
Skeldergate
Queen’s Staith Road is flooded up from the River Ouse. The car that was submerged underwater was photographed at 10:47 am this morning.
There is some water coming through the drains on Skeldergate itself, but not enough to close the road.
And a car that was semi-submerged has now been brought out of the water at about 12.10pm today.
Cumberland Street and King’s Staith
Entrances to The Lowther and Plonkers Bar are both flooded, as well as the South Esplande.
Tower Gardens
Tower Gardens is closed to the public, with flood pumps in place to disperse of the water.
Sophie’s Cafe on the riverside is partially submerged by flood water.
St George’s Car Park
St George’s Car Park is closed due to the flooding, but there are still around five cars parked in the area.
Marygate
Sandbags are in place on Marygate.
Bishopthorpe
The river has flooded Bishopthorpe Marina, and access to the riverside paths and entrances to the Boatyard are completely unusable.
