The Minster Village returns to York for the summer – and this time it’s in full bloom.
Following its popular winter debut, the South Piazza next to the majestic York Minster has been transformed for the summer with a colourful spectacle of floral arches, a cafe and bar, picnic tables, a maypole, and a pen of life-like sheep.
Opening today (Tuesday 31 May), the Minster Village will be running all through summer until 4 September.
The arches surrounding the Minster Village are festooned with faux foliage and flowers that include roses, hydrangeas, peonies and wisteria.
Within the Village are several decorative wooden cabins offering food, drinks and ice creams, as well as seating and tables – including umbrellas and covered benches for those wanting some shade from the sun (or shelter from the rain…).
And with York Minster literally just there, it makes for quite an impressive view!

There’s a nod to this year’s Jubilee celebrations on the menu as visitors can tuck into a Balmoral or Windsor gourmet burger. Food options also include boxed salads, flatbreads, pizzas and fries.
There is also a ‘Little Ones’ menu for children as well as a ‘Brunch Munchies’ menu to start the day.
Drink selections include summer favourites like Pimms and prosecco – and try the specially named Minster Martini.
The full-licensed bar will also serve lagers, ciders, wines and spirits as well as a large range of cold and zero-alcohol drinks, including slushies and a strawberries-and-cream milkshake.
The Minster Village will be open daily from 10am to 7pm, and until 8pm on Friday and Saturdays. Entry is free.
The event is run by CMJ Events in partnership with York Minster.
