Opens 8am Thurs Sep 7; open Mon-Sat 8am-10pm; Sun 10am-4pm
Olympic rower Jessica Eddie will officially open the new Water Lane store to the public.
The rower, who claimed her first Olympic silver medal as part of Team GB’s women’s eight at the Rio Olympics in 2016, will do the honours at 8am on Thursday (September 7).
And to celebrate the store opening, the first 30 people in the queue will receive a free shopping bag full of fresh fruit and veg from Aldi’s Super 6 range.
Store details
The new store has 98 car parking spaces and 1,254 square metres of retail space.
It will feature a variety of twice-weekly ‘Specialbuys’ every Thursday and Sunday, covering everything from gardening equipment to electrical items.
The store launch has created 30 new jobs. It is the third to open in York, with others on Fulford Road and at Monks Cross.
Store manager Adam Monk said: “The team are extremely excited to be opening the doors to the York community this week and eager to put their customer-first training into play.
“The team and I are also thrilled to have a local Olympian come to open the store – we are very much looking forward to welcoming Jessica and our new customers.”
Jessica said: “Aldi does an incredible amount to support Team GB, so it’s nice to pay thanks by helping welcome it to the York community – I’m really looking forward to meeting the store’s team and new customers.”
