Need to park your car in York, but find official spaces inconvenient?
Don’t worry – these drivers certainly didn’t!
After we reported how Exhibition Square was being used as an unofficial car park, many YorkMix readers said they had spotted more of the same.
It seems that there are unofficial car parks springing up across the city! Amazingly, some are just yards from official parking bays too.
Here are a few discovered by eagled eyed correspondents.
Cycle lanes, Monks Cross
Our correspondent writes: “The ‘cycle path’ in Monks Cross – particularly the bit outside Boots – is regularly used as a car park.
“Well, you can understand it. The nearest actual proper car parking is almost TEN METRES away. Too far for some motorists to walk, clearly.”
Clarence Street pavement
Our reader writes: “This is Clarence Street, beside bus stop…..very annoying as in winter mud all over the pavement because of this parking.”
Tadcaster Road Pavement
“Repeated pavement parking at this point on Tadcaster Road is annoying a lot of people who live in the area. This photo says it all,” says our reader.
Trafalgar Street pavement
Even if you don’t have access to a nice broad pavement, you can still squeeze across half a footpath. This sort of thing happens across South Bank, according to our correspondent.
Copmanthorpe foot and cycle path
At first glance, these look like official parking bays. But actually all these cars are parked in what is meant to be the foot and cycle path alongside Smithson Court in Copmanthorpe.
