Prints, costing £12 each, are available from the gallery with profits to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal.

‘Thirsk should be so proud’: First trucks filled with aid set off from town

The people of Thirsk have been incredibly generous in donating aid for Ukraine. Donations are being collected at Unit 7, Marrtree Industrial Estate, Sowerby, Thirsk YO7 3HF.

Residents and businesses have joined forces to organise the transport and logistics of delivering these donations to Ukraine with vans, trailers and drivers pledged by Thirsk people.

And yesterday (Monday), the first trucks set off from Thirsk to deliver the aid.

It is all being documented via the Yorkshire to Ukraine Instagram page which is well worth a follow.

They said:

With a change in EU rules about transporting items out to mainland Europe, we didn’t think this would be possible so soon.

However, the incredible people of Thirsk and the surrounding areas have pulled off the most incredible task of packing and labelling every box to fit with EU regulations and filled 4 trucks!

So far we have boxed up 17 tonnes of donations!! 👏👏

Well done and good luck to the drivers too!

The people of Thirsk and surrounding villages should be so proud of what we have achieved in less than a week.

You can also donate via their JustGiving page.

There’s been a fantastic response in the north of the county to appeals for Ukraine.

In Richmondshire, people have responded with incredible generosity to the appeal for donations.

The appeal is being coordinated from Colburn Village Hall which has been full to the rafters with items for people in Ukraine.

And Zetland Wine Store in Northallerton has some additional good news:

Big shout out to Northallerton – we actually raised £4,130 for Colburn Ukraine Urgent Aid.

I’ve always loved living in Northallerton and its community. I am immensely proud of each and everyone of you for your efforts this week.

Volunteers needed to sort through donations for Ukraine

A drop-off centre for donations for the people of Ukraine is appealing for volunteers.

Items from across York and beyond have been donated at EGL Storage in Strensall.

One of those involved, Hilary Platt, told us:

We have a shout out for volunteers now to help sort through items being sent to Poland.

If you have an hour or two spare please get yourself there. Items from all over York and surrounding areas are being stored and sent from here.

It has to be sorted and documented to get through to the people who need it.

If you can help, get yourself to EGL Storage/BHE Self Storage, Lambs Hill Farm, Towthorpe Moor Lane, YO32 9SR.
