The Mixie Monster joins fantastic 250-strong effort at Archbishop of York’s Junior School
What a great team effort!
The Mixie Monster and YorkMix Radio presenter Victoria Charles joined 250 youngsters and staff from Archbishop of York’s Church of England Junior School for a Back To School Steps Challenge special!

Two more top North Yorkshire landmarks clocked up
Our intrepid Back To School Steps Challengers have virtually visited two more of North Yorkshire’s most famous visitor attractions.
First, they reached Flamingo Land, home of many an exotic animal and thrilling ride, before heading back to the Shambles HQ in York.
Then, barely pausing for breath, they clocked up a visit to Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough.
Fantastic effort.
Whitby Abbey reached
Well done all – another landmark ticked off!
Participants in the Back To School miles challenge have reached the imposing ruins of Whitby Abbey.

The miles are mounting up
All these little virtual trips are adding up and the number of people joining in is growing all the time!
We will have current mile totals tomorrow and prizes announced on Friday.
The challenge runs till half term, I wonder how many time we will have circled the North Yorkshire bounty by then?

Three more landmarks achieved
We’ve reached three more landmarks, from Shambles and back.
Great start by school number two
The wet weather meant out first school visit was postponed, but a big welcome to school number two – Archbishop of York’s CE Junior.
And on their first day of contribution they clocked up an impressive 64 miles. Well done!
We’ve now added boat miles
The YorkMix Radio team added miles to the total today – by river!
Our boat competed in the Dragon Boat Race on the River Ouse. Three heats and 16 people gave us a total of 7.5 miles for the day (it felt like more!)
Thank you to Mr Morton and Miss Strain, also to Olympian Scott Lincoln who joined us in the boat and will be sending his miles over too.
Welcome Carlton Primary
Exciting news, Carlton Primary school to the challenge and we will be visiting them with Mixie the Monster for a walk around the field to clock up some miles!
Breaking news! We now have 122 miles on the clock and have smashed our first target.
Join the challenge as we tour North Yorkshire and clock up the miles.
Off to Castle Howard!
Thank you to those who have already joined the group and got in touch with the studio… we are starting with a warm up walk from the YorkMix HQ on Shambles to Castle Howard and back – 30 miles in total which is around 60,000 steps.

‘Looking after our health has never been more important’
It’s #steptember and we are teaming up with Selby High School to lead another fantastic Community challenge. This time virtually travelling the landmarks of North Yorkshire, we’ve got six weeks on this challenge, let’s see how far we can go.
Everyone is welcome to join in, so join us, we want you!
There will be weekly prizes & special mentions for individuals, families and schools. Tune in on a Monday morning to YorkMix Radio as the weekly winners will be announced.
YorkMix Radio will also be taking Mixie The Monster to some of the schools taking part for a walk around the field!
Fresh air and exercise definitely eases those #BackToSchool nerves & anxiety.

Join the Back to School Steps Challenge!
Welcome to Back to School Steps.
Our aim is to get as many people in North Yorkshire moving, in the first weeks of the new school term.
So how does it work?
You join the club on our Strava page here. Then set the Strava fitness app on your phone to ‘run’ and it will automatically upload.
The aim is to cover 450 miles between us – the perimeter of North Yorkshire.
We will be stopping at landmarks where prizes can be won! We hope that this mini challenge will help ease anxiety for people heading back to school, and to address the importance of mental health and wellbeing.
We want everyone to be involved!
