Diners have been responding with dismay to the news that one of York’s most critically acclaimed restaurants is set to close.
Le Cochon Aveugle, on Walmgate, has been regularly named among the best restaurants in the country.
But you only have a few months to indulge in its incredible menu as owners Josh Overington and partner Vicky Roberts plan to move on.
They say Le Cochon Aveugle will close on Saturday, 26 November 2022.
Josh and Vicky said: “This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional decision for us, but it is time to close the door on this chapter and start a fresh adventure.
“We have achieved such a huge amount in our small restaurant; far more than we could ever have imagined or hoped for. For that, Cochon will forever hold a special place in our lives.”
They thanked their staff, suppliers and customers.

“The food, service and dining experience that our team are creating is truly special and we really believe that we have never been better,” Josh and Vicky added.
“These last few months will be a celebration of an amazing eight years and of all that this restaurant has become.
“We hope that we can look forward to welcoming both new and familiar faces to enjoy the Cochon experience one last time before we say goodbye.”
‘You will be missed’

Josh and Vicky have created something special at Le Cochon Aveugle (French for ‘blind pig’).
There is no menu for diners to peruse. Instead Josh creates a a four- or eight-course ‘blind’ tasting menu, which the customers discover only as it is served up to them.

Their decision to close the restaurant later in the year shocked their many loyal customers.
“So gutted to lose such an amazing restaurant in York. I’ll be keeping a eye out for what comes next,” one said.
“You will be missed. I am a Yank but I never come to York without dining with you,” another commented.
And this was the reaction of a third: “I’m so sorry to hear this. We have celebrated many happy wedding anniversaries in your restaurant and have never been disappointed.”
Many diners commented that they would have to book in before it closed its doors.
Meanwhile their wine bar, Cave du Cochon, which opened in 2016, looks set to continue to trade.
