North Yorkshire fire crews have rescued countless animals from various scrapes over the years.
We have reported on their work to save a pony stuck in a cattle grid and a dog stuck in a pipe among many others.
But this was the first time we can recall them being called to help search for a cat in a compost heap.
But that is what happened last night (Thursday). Firefighters responded to the request at a property on Main Street, Sproxton, near Helmsley at 5.40pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from Helmsley responded to reports of a cat stuck in a compost heap.
“Crews used a thermal imaging camera to investigate, but later discovered the cat up a tree.”
