York is buzzing with new ideas after the launch of the York Hive on Thursday (March 17).
York Hive is a city-wide crowdfunding platform, designed to raise cash for projects that can change our city for the better.
All you need is an idea. Launch it on the York Hive page, and see where it takes you.
York Hive is part of Spacehive, a national crowdfunding platform with a track record for making things happen – from the creation of a giant waterslide down one of Bristol’s main streets to an urban park built on an old railway sidings in Peckham.
Make It York has worked with Spacehive to bring the concept here.
Whether you want to bring a wonderful old building back to life or create something completely new, York Hive will enable York’s local communities to make decisions on which projects are supported and help create projects that will make a real difference.

The Hamilton Panthers Clubhouse
Target: £50K
The amazing volunteers behind community football club Hamilton Panthers FC York have already raised an enormous £715,000 for a new clubhouse. But then it was discovered another £50K was required to finish the job.
The Rigg Monument
Target: £14,054
In 1830 six children, aged from six to 19, died in a boating tragedy on the River Ouse. A monument to the children was built in St Lawrence’s Church, paid for by public subscription. Once a national visitor attraction the monument is now sadly eroded and overgrown. York Civic Trust is leading the campaign to restore it.
Abundance at Edible York
Target: £4,825
This is an existing project that picks surplus fruit growing in York’s gardens and in the wild so that it is put to good use; gathered and distributed to local people, especially those who will benefit most. To get the fruit to people who will benefit the most Edible York will link with voluntary groups to pass it on at food banks and community cafes and having storage will make it possible for more agencies to take part.
York Arts Barge
Target: £23,729
York’s floating arts centre has already proved itself to be popular with all ages. Now the project is moving on to the next stage: a bigger, better boat, restored and moored permanently in York. The money will be used to help make that happen – with the plan being to open the barge for business in 2017.
Proudly Indie York
Target: £25,951
The Christmas floods hit many independent businesses hard. Proudly Indie York aims to offer support with a York Indie map, website publications and a collective voice.
