What was Blue Anchor Fish and Chips on Blossom Street is now shut.
The shop was best known as Fryway’s. Then new management took over and changed it to Blue Anchor in October 2023.
It was still advertising its menu in the middle of August.
Then a message appeared on the Blue Anchor website that says: “We are closed from August 12 to September 30. We are closed for refurbishment! Be back soon!”
Since then, work has begun to turn the premises into Rico’s, specialising in chicken dishes. It is advertising chargrilled and peri-peri chicken.

Wackers, the family-run venue on Gillygate, did not reopen after lockdown restrictions were eased in 2020. It later became a Tesco.
The Huntington Fish Shop on North Moor Road has closed. Plans were in to turn it back into a house but were later withdrawn.
King’s Fish & Chips on Fulford Road closed last year. A planning application was submitted to convert the building into flats, but that plan was withdrawn too.
And the National Fish And Chip Museum by Papa’s Fish & Chips made a splash by selling one of each for 4p when it opened on Parliament Street in 2019.
But it didn’t last and is now Greek restaurant Wine Stories.
