A York building has had its chips as a fast food takeaway.

What was King’s Fish & Chips on Fulford Road looks set to be turned into flats.

The chippie closed earlier this year, to the dismay of locals.

The company behind it, Kngs Fulford Ltd, appointed liquidators in February after racking up debts of more than £100,000.

Company accounts show it owed:

  • the taxman (HMRC Revnue & Customs) £33,665
  • EDF Energy £348
  • Lorraine and Mark Rodgers £68,211.

Mr and Mrs Rodgers, of Liversedge, West Yorkshire, were the company directors.

Now the owners of 77 Main Street in Fulford, Linda and Stephen Miller of Millers Fish and Chips, want to turn it into flats. They say they have had five tenants running it as a takeaway in recent years, none of whom made a long-term success of it as a business.

They have now submitted a planning application to turn the building into two one-bedroom flats.

“We are seeking approval for the existing commercial fish and chip shop to be converted into two 1-bedroom apartments with a rear courtyard area with bin/bike stores,” planning documents state.

The toilet block would be demolished as part of the plans.

The documents state: “The proposals are being progressed due to the viability of the commercial unit.

“The owners of the unit have had five tenants in over the past few years, who have all suffered various issues resulting in the unit being closed and looking for new tenants.

“The change of use would also remove the large deliveries to the front of the shop, on main street which causes havoc with traffic in the area.”
