Plans are in to give a new look to a shop on Shambles.
Bao at 43 Shambles has served up decorated steam bao buns, bubble tea and shakes since 2021.
It is unmissable with a bright pink window and sign.
That could soon change, though, as plans are in to change the colour scheme to a red shade, possibly Dulux’s ‘Cranberry Crunch’.
Under the proposals, the interior would change too. The walls would be repainted in a neutral colour, such as light grey.

A new stainless steel sink would be installed, new electric sockets added and some wood panelling near the window removed. “This will make the shop feel more airy and bright,” planning documents say.
Number 43 Shambles is a Grade II listed 18th century building, remodelled in the 20th century.
“We consider that the proposed works to preserve the character and appearance of both the listed building and the conservation area,” a design statement says.
Bao was opened in the unit previously occupied by Essence Of Peru, which closed in January 2020.
Phoebe Lai and Suyin Chia first opened Meow on Goodramgate and then Bao on Shambles.
The Meow and Bao team also ran the food truck ‘Little Bubble Box’.
Phoebe grew up in Hong Kong, and her background includes working in a Michelin Star bubble waffle shop there.
