New café opens in York – with a sister venue to follow soon
A new café has opened in York – serving takeaway only at the moment of course.
And soon it will be joined by a sister outlet.
Meow In York is now open on Goodramgate, serving bubble waffles, bubble tea and more. You can walk in for food, or order for delivery via Just Eat.
It is the brainchild of Phoebe, well known for running the mobile food outlet Little Bubble Box, which she took to the York Food Festival as well as Shambles Market and other venues.
Phoebe grew up in Hong Kong, and her background includes working in a Michelin Star bubble waffle shop there.
Meow serves everything from gyoza and fries, to drinks like nutty coffee and mango smoothie – as well as bubble tea.
Fluffy fun
Meow will soon be joined by sister café, Bao. It is due to open on Shambles, in the corner shop previously occupied Essence Of Peru, in the first quarter of 2021.
As the name suggests, it will specialise in selling ‘baos’ – a type of yeast-leavened filled bun common in Chinese cuisine. They are filled with treats including custard, and are traditionally steamed.
The website says: “Baos are very common snack foods in Asia, and was very much missing from the UK snack food scene. Hence came about the idea to introduce this – in cute animals – to York!
“Bao was opened together with business partner Suyin, who grew up in Singapore.
“Both Phoebe and Suyin were missing these delightful fluffy steamed buns that are commonplace in Chinese cuisine in Asia.”
