Four bikes have been donated to a group of vulnerable youngsters just in time for Christmas, thanks to two York Central developers.
As part of their commitment to sustainability, McLaren Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate supported the YorkMix Toy Appeal with an amazing £500 donation.
Working alongside YorkMix and the City of York Council’s Social Care team, it was decided that the money would go towards bikes for a group of 16-year-old-boys in the care system.
The bikes were then sourced from the pre-loved bike specialist, Recycle York, on Walmgate.
The sustainable business helps recycle around 5,000 bikes a year, and in its 12 year history, has recycled more than 50,000 bikes across North Yorkshire.
The team were approached earlier this week and will personally deliver the bikes to the boys in the coming days.
The owner of Recycle, Brad Mulhearn, told YorkMix: “It’s a really nice idea to give these bikes out to some young adults, especially as it gives them some freedom and independence.
Allan Cook, founder of Arlington Real Estate, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support such a great cause and help young people who would otherwise go without at Christmas.
“This is a fantastic initiative that brings businesses from across the city together each year to make it a huge success.
“Donating these bikes to young people from York, to help with their independence and social mobility, very much fits with our aspiration to create a sustainable new place for the local community to benefit from, and we are really grateful to the team at Recycle York for helping us source them.”
The YorkMix Toy Appeal is an annual initiative aiming to ensure no child wakes up on Christmas without a gift. This year, individuals and businesses from across the city and further, donated more toys than ever.
Managing director of YorkMix David Green said: “We’re very grateful for this generous donation from Arlington Real Estate and McLaren Regeneration and have been overwhelmed with support from across the York business community.
“These bikes will provide a gift to the young people at Christmas, as well as giving them independence.”
