Here’s a unique opportunity only available in this city – take part in the York Mystery Plays.
York Mystery Plays Supporters Trust (YMPST) is encouraging more young actors to take part in the plays, not just this year but for future performances.
They also need volunteers to be chaperones.
The trust believes that involving young people is an important part of keeping the tradition alive in the city – Dame Judi Dench was a schoolgirl of 16 when she played an angel in the 1951 production.
Anyone who would like to know more about what is involved should contact the YMPST for more information. Licensing takes place through City of York Council Education Support Services and online training is in conjunction with the NSPCC.
The email address is [email protected].
YMPST Child Safeguarding Officer, Maurice Crichton says: “To bring in young people, still of compulsory school age, we need to be able to call upon volunteer chaperones at rehearsals and during performances to comply with safeguarding legislation.
“We’d like to have a team of volunteer chaperones (male and female).
“We’ll need chaperoning for our Wagon Play production, The Flood and, looking ahead, we want it to be straightforward for directors of our Nativity productions to involve young people.”
