A new foodie tour is hitting the York food scene – and aims to showcase some of the best independent places to eat in the city.

The popular food guide York on a Fork have launched their first food tour.

Run by Ben Thorpe, who has lived in York for over two decades, the new tour will show residents and visitors some of the best independent eateries York has to offer.

Tapas anyone?

For almost a decade York on a Fork has been spreading the word about the best of hospitality in York.

The food blog was created after founder Ben left his career as a business analyst and “decided it was time for a change and to indulge my love for food in York.”

Since then, Ben has worked with the York Food and Drink Festival, become a coordinating judge for the Guild of Fine Food at their national Great Taste Awards, and has been quoted multiple times in national and local media.

Now, Ben is sharing his knowledge and love for food in his new tour.

Tour attendees can expect to visit six York eateries that represent elements of the city’s history or food scene.

Typically, the tour will stop at:

  • Love Cheese
  • Drakes Fish & Chips
  • Shambles Kitchen
  • York Cocoa Works
  • Ambiente Tapas
  • Walmgate Ale House

There will be vegetarian options available, as well as a couple of alcoholic drinks included.

Tasty tour delights

“The food scene in York has developed so quickly over the last decade and, despite current pressures, doesn’t seem to be showing much sign of slowing down,” said Ben.

‘There’s so much diversity and quality that I love sharing with as many people as I can – York has so much to be proud of!

“I’m adamant that this tour will bring together curious foodies and great establishments while letting me share my hard-won insider knowledge of the city.”

The tour is priced at £65 per person and lasts roughly three hours. As well as sampling some fab food, participants will also see some of York’s brilliant sights, such as the city walls and Clifford’s Tower.

It’s going down well so far, with Tripadvisor users commenting that the tour is “brilliant way to see beautiful York as well as trying some of the
delicious food on offer” and there’s “lots of tasty food samples on offer, you won’t feel short changed!”
