Have the chance to step aboard a Spanish Galleon this summer!
The 17th century replica Spanish galleon El Galeón Andalucía will be docking at Whitby and Scarborough this July – giving visitors the chance to step on board and explore this historical ship.
The Galeón Andalucía will be at Whitby Harbour from Wednesday 10 to Monday 15 July, and at North Wharf Quay, Scarborough Harbour from Wednesday 17 to Monday 22 July.
El Galeón was built in 2009 by the Nao Victoria Foundation, and has sailed along the world’s largest seas and oceans and visited ports in four continents. So far, visitors have discovered her decks in almost a hundred ports all over the world.
It is a replica of the ship used by the Spanish during the 16th to 18th centuries for maritime expeditions and trade. The floating museum is a 500 ton galleon, with a length reaching 160 ft and four masts holding six sails.
Visitors will be able to step back in time as they board the majestic ship and picture themselves sailing out to sea on a grand adventure.
The self-guided tour will give visitors the chance to explore the six decks, talk to real crew members – the ship has 12 sailors living and working on board – and view a special exhibition and historical documents.
Make this your next voyage this summer as a slice of Spain comes to the North Yorkshire coast.
