The Which? guide to the UK’s best and worst seaside towns is out.

And North Yorkshire has two in the top 20.

The consumer association’s ranking is based on ratings by more than 3,000 seaside-goers.

They have rated the beach, attractions, scenery, value for money – and more – for more than 100 UK seaside towns and villages.

Bamburgh in Northumberland came top. The village, with its wide-open beach and imposing castle, scored an impressive 80%.

So where are the top Yorkshire resorts ranked?

#15 Filey

Filey scored 79% in the Which poll. It’s fabulous, five-mile sandy bay scored five stars out of five, and it got the same for ‘peace and quiet’ and ‘value for money’.

It scored less for shopping and tourist attractions, but Filey is all about an old-fashioned seaside break on the beach. And it’s food and drink offer has improved immeasurably in recent years.

#19 Robin Hood’s Bay

This too got an overall score of 79%. It’s sandy beach got four out of five stars. But its clifftop views and picturesque (if hard on the knees) hillside village meant it scored the full five for scenery.

#20 Saltburn by the Sea

Saltburn has one of the finest piers you can perambulate along, as well as a large sandy beach. The resort also got 79% overall, with four out of five stars for its beach, five stars for that seafront and pier, and another four for value for money.

#75 Scarborough

We have quite a drop in the rankings to find Scarborough. Despite its two large bays, copious sands and lively town, it only scored 68% in the Which poll. It did best in the beaches and things to do categories, with four out of five stars. But it only got two for peace and quiet.

#94 Bridlington

Poor old Bridlington is the least rated of the five Yorkshire towns ranked by Which members. Its score of 62% still puts it way ahead of the least popular UK resort in the list, Skegness, which gets only 48%. And Brid does score four out of five for its beach.
