Romans will once again be taking over York – as the Eboracum Roman Festival is back for 2023.
The fun, family-friendly, and free festival will be setting up a living history encampment in York Museum Gardens showcasing the Roman way of life, with demonstrations, expert talks, activities and storytelling for all ages.
The Eboracum Roman Festival will take place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July.
New for the festival for this year is ‘Circus Maximus’ – which will give families the chance to get creative in a series of activities, including making a hobby horse to enter in a chariot race or equestrian dressage.
The popular Kid’s Army and Gladiator School will return, where children can get involved with exciting Roman re-enactments.
Plus, visitors can explore fashion through the Roman age, see demonstrations of military techniques, learn how to write in Latin script, how to play Roman board games – and much more.
And don’t forget to step inside the Yorkshire Museum for even more Roman fun, including their current exhibition ‘The Ryedale Hoard’, which includes a 1,800 year old bust of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
All activities and exhibitions inside the Yorkshire Museum are included in general admission.
