It may not be the most important meal of the day – but brunch is the most fun.
And York folk are spoiled for fabulous brunch spots.
Now a new survey claims to have found the top place for this most enjoyable of meals in cities across the UK.
It has been commissioned by online travel website Omio. Researchers used TripAdvisor data to showcase the places ranked number one in each city that offer the best brunch.
And in York the place that came out on top was – Wheldrakes on Goodramgate.
It has a five out of five Tripadvisor rating with more than 1,000 reviews, and is currently ranked on the site as number one out of 90 venues for coffee and tea in York.
Described as “a little gem in the heart of the walls of York” Wheldrakes says: “We pride ourselves in homemade produce sourced locally fresh to order.”
One typical Tripadvisor review said: “This might be the best brunch I have ever had! The staff were so lovely, the atmosphere was cosy and welcoming and the food was to die for! Will be returning on every York visit from now on!”
Unfortunately you can’t try it for yourself today – Wheldrakes is closed for a holiday and reopens on Friday (6 October).
But don’t worry, there are many great brunch spots to try in our guide to where to find the best brunch in York – updated for 2023.
