Well there’s a turn up for the books… York will get a new library this weekend.
Explore York will unveil its new mobile library in Haxby on Saturday (June 10) from 10am.
Everyone is welcome to come along for tea and cake and a look round. The new library bears the distinctive Explore branding and will be easily recognised at stops in and around Haxby.
Equipped with self-service technology, it is stocked with a wide range of books, including large print and audio versions.
Explore staff will be offering regular activities and special events with their partner locations, including craft groups, reader groups, story times and digital sessions.
Working behind the scenes

Haxby Explore was forced to close last July because the 1960s-built building had serious structural problems.
A temporary library service has run from Oaken Grove Community Centre since late last summer.
“We have been working behind the scenes since then on a medium term solution until we are able to move into our own permanent home in Haxby,” said a spokeswoman for Explore York.
Councillor Nigel Ayre is in charge of culture, leisure & tourism at City of York Council.
He said: “We have been working really hard with Explore over the last few months to find a solution for the service and are very grateful for the wonderful support from our customers and partners in the village.”
The new mobile library will be open five days a week, in four different locations.
Each stop will be for a full day and a half day on Saturday. The library will stop at the same place on the same day every week so everyone will know when to expect us.
