York’s first ever Board Game Convention is coming to the city later this year.
Board game enthusiasts can expect a weekend of large-scale games, a board game tournament, social deduction games, a custom-made Quest provided by Ghost Quest York, as well as a handful of exhibitors selling board games, game art, and related paraphernalia.
The inaugural event will take place at the Spurriergate Centre, York, on Friday 11 to Sunday 13 October 2024.
The convention is inspired by similar board gaming events such as Airecon which takes place in Harrogate every March.
There are only 100 tickets available, in addition to the volunteers and exhibitors for the event – and with over 300 people already having signed up for early access to tickets, they’re expected to sell out fast.
One of the event organisers, Ryan Willis, said, “York has long had a thriving board gaming culture and it’s so exciting to be able to finally celebrate this with York’s first ever Board Game Convention!
“Board games today are far more delightful and complex than the traditional titles such as Monopoly or Scrabble, and the board games industry is undergoing a boom of creative and exciting new ways to play and engage together,” he said.
“Given the level of interest, there are already plans forming to do the convention again in 2025 on a grander scale – bigger and better.”
Refreshments will also be available to buy at the venue.

Tickets are expected to go on sale in late March or early April.
