Happy birthday to the NHS, 75 years old today!
While York hasn’t got a cake for the venerable institution, it is has something more spectacular planned.
City of York Council has arranged for the city walls to be lit up in blue this evening (Wednesday).
These are the places where you can see the walls go blue:
- Clifford’s Tower
- Bar Walls
- Monk Bar
- Micklegate
- Millennium Bridge
- Bootham Bar.
Landmarks across the country are doing the same – and the York NHS trust has already announced that York Hospital will be lit up blue too.
People are being encouraged to take photos and share them via social media using the hashtags: #NHS75 and #LightUpBlue.
Cllr Jo Coles, the council’s executive member for health, wellbeing and adult social care, said: “The NHS plays such an important role in the lives of people across York. Lighting up our world-famous Bar Walls in blue for the anniversary of its creation is a small way for the city to show our appreciation to everyone who works for the NHS.
“Happy 75th birthday!”
