York’s Disney Store set to become a coffee shop
One of York’s most prominent empty shops could soon become part of a big café chain.
As revealed first in YorkMix, the Disney Store on Parliament Street shut as part of a programme of closures by the Mickey Mouse company.
But it’s not set to be empty for long.
Costa Coffee are keen to snap it up. They have submitted a planning application to turn the large ground floor retail unit into a large coffee shop.
Seating would include booths, dining chairs and wingback chairs. The famous deep red Costa branding would be paintined on both sides of the unit.
The application says: “The proposals are therefore sensitive and appropriate to the existing character of the building whilst making it suitable for practical use by Costa.
“These alterations will respect and pose no harm to the important heritage features of the building.
“The alterations will result in an improvement in the appearance of the building by removing an internal partition and opening up the frontage to Market Street.”
