The Body Shop has announced that a further 75 stores are set to close. But both York’s remaining stores will stay open.
In the latest round of closures, the 75 branches will go within six weeks.
Both the Body Shops in the Coppergate Centre in York city centre, and at York Designer Outlet, are not among them.
However, branches in Beverley, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds White Rose and Wakefield Trinity Walk will shut.
The high street skincare and cosmetics chain fell into administration earlier this month.
Administrators from FRP Advisory made the closure announcement. The first seven branches to shut closed their doors last week.
The retail firm will be left with 116 stores across the UK, following the latest announcement.
Tony Wright, joint administrator, said: “In taking swift action to right-size The Body Shop UK store portfolio, we have stabilised the business and are providing the best opportunity for this iconic brand to have a long-term, sustainable future.
“The UK business continues to trade in administration, and we remain fully focused on exploring all options to take the business forward.”
Founded in 1976 by Anita Roddick and her husband Gordon, it became one of the first companies to promote so-called ethical consumerism, focusing on ethically produced skincare and cosmetic products.
One of the former stores was situated on Stonegate, which shut down in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, the shop in Coppergate reopened following a store refit where guests from York’s LGBTQ+ Forum, were welcomed to re-open the store to the public. The store has been trading there since 1984.
