YorkMix has launched the Tonne Of Tins Appeal – to help people in our community through the cost of living crisis this winter.
We are asking people in York and North Yorkshire to add an extra tin or two to their weekly food shop and donate them to the appeal.
The aim is to collect as many tins as possible to help food banks carry out their amazing work across the county.
Food banks are battling to keep up with unprecedented demand. First the pandemic and now the huge rise in prices have seen more people than ever using them.
The Trussell Trust, which supports 1,300 food banks in the UK, says it had to purchase three times as much food in 2022 as it did the previous year.
David Green, managing director of YorkMix Radio, said: “So many people are struggling to get by this winter, and we want to do all we can to help them.
“Food banks provide a lifeline to countless families across York and North Yorkshire. If we can support their brilliant work, it will make an immediate positive impact.
“At YorkMix, we were overwhelmed by the extraordinary generosity of our listeners and readers to our Christmas Toy Appeal.
“Now we’re asking for your help again – please do what you can to add to our Tonne of Tins!”
Our appeal is being supported by Yorkshire Profiles – providers of quality assured metal fabrication at the heart of North Yorkshire.
Managing director of Yorkshire Profiles Matthew Halliwell said: “We are proud to be supporting such an important and worthwhile appeal, and one that will make a huge difference this winter.
“Everyone who gives a tin will be helping someone in our community. North Yorkshire is such a caring and compassionate place to live, and we know people here will be ready to help.”
