Meet the finalists…
The Gavi Gang
A four-way nomination for neighbours Janis and Ian Sinclair and Vanessa and Brian Shield!
One person who nominated them said, “For 20 months they have been my rock, my extended family, my support, my friends.”
They would often chat across the gardens with a cuppa or a glass of wine – the group of friends are nicknamed The Gavi Gang for the type of wine they all like to drink!
“As I was shielding, my neighbours would check in and get shopping for me if needed and just check I was OK every day!”
Though the outdoor meetups started during lockdown, the gang still meet every week to have BBQs, spa treatments or sit outside in their ‘Gavi-zebos’.
“I have friends for life. It is a huge positive of the last 20 months.”
Heather Cunnigton
Heather is a neighbour who has gone above and beyond to be a pillar of support for a neighbour during a personal difficult time.
Someone who nominated her said that Heather is “such a brilliant, supportive and inspirational neighbour.
“Always cheerful and very wise!
“The support she’s offered is phenomenal.”
Not only has Heather been there for moral support, but she’s also helped her neighbour with various tasks like putting the bins out, checking the house and offered to get shopping.
Bev & Henry Curran
During lockdowns, Bev & Henry Curran were in a Covid support bubble with their neighbour and helped out by getting shopping and even completely redecorating their neighbour’s new house!
Someone who nominated them said, “Since moving in they have been incredible neighbours and without them it is quite possible I would have completely ‘lost the plot’.
“They have been the most supportive Covid bubble anyone could wish for.
“They have gone above and beyond normal friend duties and most likely saved my life.”
Congratulations to all of our finalists!
The winner of the Neighbour of the Year Award will be revealed in our Hero Awards ceremony at the Principal York on 8th October.
