A hundred York workers have lost their jobs as a Yorkshire printing firm collapsed into administration.
York Mailing Ltd, based at Brinkworth Rush Airfield Business Park in Elvington, is part of the Leeds-based YM Group.
All operations at York Mailing Ltd, Pindar in Scarborough and YM Chantry Lane in Wakefield have been stopped after owners the YM Group went into administration today (Friday).
YM Group employs 512 staff across the sites, who are being made redundant.
Phil Pierce and Philip Watkins, of business advisory firm FRP, have been appointed as administrators.
Mr Pierce said: “This has been an incredibly challenging period for the printing sector and York Mailing, YM Chantry and Pindar are no longer able to continue trading.
“Regrettably, the insolvency has led to redundancies at what we know will be an extremely difficult time. We will work with staff to access redundancy support.”
York Mailing has produced promotional materials for leading supermarkets for almost 20 years.
The Unite union branded the job losses ‘disgraceful’.
Unite regional officer Darren Rushworth said:
YM Group has behaved disgracefully it repeatedly promised workers would be paid and even encouraged them to undertake overtime, in recent days.
The administrators said the collapse occurred after a period of rising costs and “significant period of challenging trading that had been exacerbated by the impact of the pandemic”.
