Regulars at a popular village pub have expressed their sadness that it has closed suddenly.
The Blacksmiths Arms in Naburn has shut for the foreseeable future.
“Due to a fall in trade over the past year, it is with a heavy heart that we have unfortunately been left with no option but to close our doors for the time being,” a statement posted online said.
“We will of course keep you updated as to when we will be able to open again.
“We want to thank everyone who has supported us through the years, it has meant the world to us and we hope to see you again soon.”
The Blacksmiths Arms, run for many years by Anthony Buckley, is a popular spot not just with Naburn villagers but people who use the river and those who have sought it out, particularly for its Sunday roasts and carvery.
It has hundreds of glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, with a 4.5 out of five rating.
News of the closure dismayed many who love the traditional village pub, which dates back three centuries.
One of the first to comment was the wife of a man whose life Anthony and others in the pub helped to save in 2018.
Another wrote: “Very sad, for you and for us. A village isn’t really a village without a pub.”
And a third said: “That’s so very sad. We’ve had great food there for many years and we’ve always received a warm welcome. Wishing you and your staff a very big thank you for your excellent service.”
