Some iconic York scenes will now greet international tourists when they first step on British soil.
Make It York has unveiled a new bus for passengers arriving at Heathrow Airport.
The bus features landmarks including York Minster, Clifford’s Tower, Shambles and the River Ouse.
As a joint initiative with train operator LNER, the bus also promotes the fact that you can travel to York from London in as little as an hour and 47 minutes.
A Make It York spokesperson said: “Heathrow Airport is the UK’s busiest and a significant international hub, with over 79 million passengers passing through its terminals in 2023.
“The new York bus wrap is set to reach an international audience, ensuring that York is at the forefront of travellers’ minds as they arrive in the UK.”
It comes as York is showcased at this year’s World Travel Market London.
WTM London now facilitates £2.8 billion in industry deals and has around 5,000 exhibitors from 182 countries and regions and more than 51,000 participants. This year’s event takes place from 5-7 November 2024 at ExCel, London.
Samantha Hunt, head of sales & marketing at Make It York, said: “We’re thrilled to showcase our beautiful city to global travellers at Heathrow Airport, highlighting just how amazing York truly is.
“WTM is always a significant event for us, offering a fantastic opportunity to meet fellow travel experts and to generate even more interest and spotlight on all that York has to offer.”
