Joseph Rowntree Theatre has announced their exciting spring season of shows.
The theatre will be celebrating its 90th year in 2025 – and is marking the birthday in style with a special Anniversary Ball on Saturday 21 June at the Milner Hotel.
The evening promises a night of entertainment with a three course meal, live entertainment from York party band Huge, as well as an auction to help continue the theatre’s fundraising efforts.
In addition, the theatre is holding a number of performances where ticket sales will contribute to the fundraising of the theatre – including the season opener, Beauty and the Beast (4–8 Feb) from the Joseph Rowntree Theatre Company.
Legendary York musician Don Pears presents A Music Night With Don Pears (23 Mar) where Don will be joined by York choir, Singphonia, and a host of soloists performing a varied evening of music with songs for each letter of the alphabet.
More music comes from high-energy rock performance One Night of Classic Rock (22 Mar) and The Manfreds (6 Apr), featuring original members Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness, who will perform iconic hits like ‘Do Wah Diddy Diddy’ and ‘Pretty Flamingo’.
The York Community Choir Festival (2–8 Mar) returns for its tenth year, and will once again bring together choirs of all ages and musical styles – with special performances to mark the theatre’s anniversary.
Musical lovers will be well served in the spring season, with NETheatre returning with the well-loved musical, The Sound of Music (29 Apr – 3 May), and Inspired By Theatre bring the groundbreaking rock musical Rent to the stage (10–12 Apr). The rebellious energy continues with Footloose: The Musical (15–17 May) from York St John Musical Production Society, and the feel-good production Sister Act: The Musical (21–24 May) from York Musical Theatre Company.
Rip-roaring family comedy Hannay Stands Fast (3–4 Apr), a thrilling sequel to The 39 Steps, brings Richard Hannay back to save England from a new threat – and features just four actors playing multiple roles.
The season concludes with some terrific tribute shows including Rock Ballads (26 Apr) which will pay tribute to some of the greatest rock ballads by Bon Jovi, Meatloaf, and more; and The George Harrison Project (10 May), which celebrates the Beatles legend’s solo work and his time with the Traveling Wilburys.
