A York company has launched a major charity challenge which will see its team dash across Europe.
Tech business Phoenix Software is running a fundraising campaign for St Leonard’s Hospice over several months.
It will peak in July when 30 employees will embark on a journey across the Benelux region, simulating the hit BBC One show, Race Across the World.
Each team will attempt to make their way across the countries – Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg – in the fastest time while raising cash.
Phoenix, based at York Road, Pocklington, has chosen St Leonard’s as it’s charity partner for several years now, and has raised over £16,000 so far.
Managing director at Phoenix Software Clare Metcalfe said: “We launched Race for a Reason because we not only wanted to drive our charity goals and make an impact in local communities, but also make charity fun.
“Teams have already started fundraising passionately and getting ready for the mission in July. We are looking forward to seeing who wins and how much money we raise for St Leonard’s Hospice and the vital work they do.”
Annie Keogh, corporate partnerships development fundraiser at St Leonard’s Hospice, said: “As a charity, we rely on the generosity of the public to fund our care, whether that’s in the hospice, out in the community, or in patients’ own homes.

“We simply couldn’t do what we do without the incredible support of businesses like Phoenix Software.
“Their Race for a Reason challenge is a fantastic example of how companies can make a real difference, and the funds they’ve raised over the years have had a direct impact on the care we provide. We can’t wait to follow their journey in July!”
