A 24-hour squash marathon has raised £14,600 for a children’s charity.
Players at Wigginton Squash Club took it in turns to keep playing on court throughout the night and day on Friday and Saturday.
A total of 55 players took part, aged between 11 and 67. One former UK champion was among them, along with husbands and wives and parents and children.
One of those involved was 16 year old Ollie Wigdahl.
“I thought it was a great idea. It gets the community together. People get to try out squash, squash gets played all day, and all raising money for charity,” he told YorkMix.
One of Ollie’s opponents was his dad. “It’s competitive!” he said. “He used to beat me, but as I got a bit older and stronger I started to beat him a bit more.”

As well as the squash, club member Dale Waddington completed a 24-hour rowing challenge in the club bar after three rowing machines were set up in the club bar.
And there were other fun activities too, including building Star Wars scenes out of Lego for the children.
All the money raised goes to OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity. Dale’s son Ralph was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
You can still donate via Dale’s JustGiving page.
Does Ollie think the event should return next year? “Definitely, 100%!”
