A shop that’s been trading in York city centre for ten years is closing its doors for good.
Greybear, on Bridge Street, is shutting in February next year, but will continue to run online.
The vintage furniture shop has a notice sign on the door, informing customers of the sad news.
The owner, Holly Box, revealed that she no longer has enough time to continue the business due to her expecting a second child.
The notice read:
“With a heavy heart, I am closing the doors to Greybear.
“It’s been such a tough decision to make, the shop has always been my happy place but with a second baby on the way I just can’t give the shop the time and effort it needs to make it thrive.
“It’s been an amazing thirteen years, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all our wonderful customers, and of course my unbelievable staff, for their support over the years.”
Originally from York, Holly established the furniture company in Newcastle after graduating with a degree in graphic design.
She then moved the business from High Bridge Street in Newcastle, to Knaresborough High Street, before eventually settling in York.
The news was also shared on their Instagram page, met with much disappointment.
Some of the comments included:
“Completely understand but gutted as I love your shop and have bought lots of pieces from you! Good luck and will continue to follow.”
“Such a shame, lots of my favourite pieces in my house are from you.”
Customers are welcomed to shop the closing down sale that began on Thursday (19 December), before Greybear closes for good on Sunday 2 February 2025.
