A York shop will close in the next few weeks less than two years after it opened.
Menswear retailer Master Debonair is preparing to move out of its Lendal premises.
The shop opened in July 2023 in what was previously the Style House Interiors store.
At the time, the company chief executive Simon Whitaker said he’d chosen to open the second Master Debonair shop in York after getting an “amazing response” during the city’s fashion week.
Simon founded the business in 2016, selling “sophisticated menswear with a focus on differentiating by detail”.
When contacted by YorkMix, Simon didn’t go into detail about why the York store was shutting. He said: “The lease is up and I decided not to renew it.”
He added: “We’ve loved being in York,” and that the shop would close in “around 4-8 weeks before the new tenant moves in”.
Master Debonair will continue to trade online and at its remaining store in East Boldon, Tyne & Wear.
The premises on Lendal is being marketed by Montpellier Property Consultants.
It has 858sq ft of retail space and a rent of £39,500 a year.
