A shop owner defied a man brandishing a knife in a daylight robbery in York.

The robber left with no money after the owner of the Gold Mine Mini Market on Haxby Road refused to open his till.

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place at 11.10am on Monday (August 13).

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said:

  • A man entered the store and initially asked for an amount of tobacco.

He is then believed to have produced a knife and went on to threaten the shop owner into opening the till drawer.

The shop owner refused and the man left the shop with just the tobacco.
