A York shop has launched a closing down sale – but no date has been given for its final trading day.
Signs have just gone up in the window of Bonmarche, Goodramgate, declaring ‘Closing Down Sale’ and ‘Sale – Up To 70% Off’.
But staff in the store have been telling customers that they don’t know what’s happening – they were just sent the posters and told to put them up.
Bonmarche has survived one closing down sale already. Different banners went up across its windows back in October 2019.
It came after the fashion chain fell into administration that month. Although it managed to partially recover, Bonmarche was placed back in administration less than two years later.
The retailer was saved when Purepay Retail bought it out of administration. Purepay bought all the stock, and agreed to operate 72 stores under licence, saving hundreds of jobs. Doubts remained about the future of the other 149 Bonmarche shops.

We have contacted the Bonmarche head office and will update if and when we hear back.
