A York shop that has been trading in an historic York building for more than 20 years has shut.
And work is already well underway to prepare for a new tenant to move in.
The Timpson locksmith and shoe repair shop on Newgate closed at the end of last week.
There are signs on the window that read, “This branch has now closed, your nearest Timpson store is located on 11 Market St, York, YO1 8SR.”
The site is currently being gutted, emptied and renovated ready for its next chapter.
The team transforming the shop have said they’re looking to complete the work by this weekend, as the turnover is set to be complete on Monday.
The new tenants of the Newgate store have not yet been revealed.
Number 15 Newgate is a Grade II listed building. It is part of a row of five houses, turned into four businesses, that date back to 1337.
Number 15 is owned by Damp UK Ltd, a company registered on Marylebone Lane, London. It bought the property in September 2001 for £135,000.
The shop closure leaves two Timpson outlets in the city centre, one on Market Street and another at Foss Islands.
